1. High heat transfer rate: In the condition of same pressure loss, the heat transfer coefficient of plate heat exchanger is 3 to 5 times higher than shell and tube type.
2. Less heat loss: The adjacent plates are parallel and in inverted position, so flow mode of the two fluids is coflow or counterflow, no side stream. Owing to this, the thermal ultilization is risen greatly.
3. Compact structure, space-saving: In a whole machine, the space in two plates is very small, so big space is not needed. Compared with shell and tube heat exchanger, to achieve the same heat exchanger amount, plate heat exchanger just covers area of 1/8 to 1/5.
4. Easy to change heat transfer area: It just need add or remove several plates to change the heat transfer area or vary the flow path combination, so that the whole machine can be apply to new working condition. However, shell and tube heat exchanger can not be refit easily.
5. Easy to clean and repair: For plate and frame exchanger, it is very easy to take plates down, clean and reassemble. It is very convenient for some heat exchanger equipments which need to be washed frequently.
6. Wide range of application: Plate heat exchanger has been used in various industrial field, like chemical, dairy, brewery, power & marine, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory, etc.
7. Long service time: if working in the proper working condition and take maintance regularly, most plate heat exchangers can work for 10-15 years, some even 20 years.
